Throwback days are happy ones. I think about my former couples and feel overwhelmed by the joy of having been the person that captured their marriage celebration. This relaxed Brooklyn, NY wedding is one I still consistently swoon over. I don’t think I’ll ever stop. I’m so happy to finally be exhibiting the magic these two made the day they said, “I do”.
There are some moments and days, as a photographer, that stick out more than others. Jess and Fran’s wedding is one of them. I remember arriving at their Greenpoint, Brooklyn apartment and finding Jess, surrounded by her bridesmaids, looking more beautiful than I’d ever seen her. To this date, she remains one of the most serene and calm brides I’ve ever been around. Fran also got ready in their apartment. Jess put her jewelry on in one mirror and Fran adjusted his suit in the same room. It was a couple in true harmony; two best friends taking a new step and carving a path all their own. Fred (their loveable, cuddly, kissing, and happy fur-child) joined in the magic.
The ceremony and reception took place at Aurora restaurant in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It was quiet, full of charm, and perfectly Jess and Fran. Their friends and family were quite like my own (loud genuine laughter, all completely unique and beautiful characters) so I felt right at home. The music was a perfect mix (Fran is a musician whose music I actually grew up loving), the food was amazing (Jess is a chef who now owns and runs Greenpoint Meat and Cheese), the crowd was gorgeous, fun, tattooed, and filled with laughter. It was a surreal day. I was not only lucky enough to be their photographer that day, but their friend.
As I look back on their wedding, so many years later, one very specific memory sticks out the strongest. I always have a few that choke me up and continue to remind me how much I love what I do. This particular one was when Jess and Fran were saying their vows. They held hands, stared at each other, and it looked as if no one else was in the room. Fran’s face went rather still as he looked at Jess. I don’t remember where in the short ceremony it was but I will never forget a very excited groom proclaiming at a very unexpected moment, “I just want to kiss her!”
Congrats to Jess and Fran on so many years of friendship and marriage.
